FAQs
Everything you might wonder before your first ride.
What is carpooling?
Carpooling is a way to travel where people heading to the same destination share one ride. Less traffic, lower cost, friendlier journey.
Who can use SAFER?
Anyone aged 18 or older who's a resident of Egypt. To register your car and post trips as a car owner, you must be 21 or older and have at least two years of driving experience.
How do I pay for a trip?
Through your in-app wallet, powered by OPay. Open the Profile tab, tap Wallet, then Add Money to top up with a debit/credit card, a mobile wallet, or a cash deposit at an OPay partner store. Pay for each trip from your balance, or turn on auto-deduct.
What happens if a car owner cancels?
You receive a full refund into your wallet, and the car owner covers a cancellation fee. Repeated short-notice cancellations affect a car owner's standing on the platform.
Is my data safe?
Your ID and verification documents are never shown to other users. Your public profile shows your first name, photo, ratings, age, bio, travel preferences, a trust-level badge, and how long you've been a member. Never your ID, full birth date, or contact details. See our Privacy Policy for full detail.
What kind of trips does SAFER focus on?
Long-distance trips between major Egyptian cities and destinations: Cairo to Alexandria, the North Coast, Ain Sokhna, and beyond.
How do I get verified?
Open the Profile tab and tap Verify your identity, then follow the steps: pick your nationality, enter your ID details, and take photos of your government-issued ID (National ID for Egyptians, or passport plus residence permit for non-Egyptians) and an in-app selfie. Our admin team reviews every submission, and a check-mark appears on your profile photo once you're approved.
Why was my verification rejected?
Usually because a document or photo was unclear, expired, or didn't match. You'll be asked to resubmit the corrected document. Make sure the ID is fully visible and the selfie clearly shows your face.
How do I become a car owner?
First get verified, then open the Profile tab and tap Save on gas to add your car (make, model, year). On the My Cars screen, tap Verify now to submit the car's license and your driving license. Once reviewed and approved, you can post trips. Car owners must be 21 or older with at least two years of driving experience.
What are the requirements for my car?
A privately registered car with 2–9 seats, no older than 15 years, with working seatbelts, airbags, a fire extinguisher, and functional air conditioning, clean, well-maintained, and roadworthy for long trips.
How do I find and join a trip?
On the SAFER tab, enter your destination in Going where? Use Advanced Search to set a search radius and luggage preference. Open a trip to see the verified car owner, car, and ratings, then tap Request to Join Trip. Once the car owner accepts, tap Pay Now to confirm your seat.
Can I bring luggage or a pet?
Yes, but agree it with the car owner in advance through the app. Oversized or special luggage and pets need the car owner's approval before the trip. Without it, the car owner may decline to take them.
How do I coordinate with the car owner?
Once your seat is paid for, you can chat with the car owner inside the trip to agree on a meeting point and timing. There's no need to share phone numbers. Everything stays in the app.
How do car owners get paid?
After a completed trip, earnings are credited to the car owner's in-app wallet as a withdrawable balance. To withdraw, open the Profile tab, tap Wallet, then Cash out: to a bank account, a mobile wallet, or cash pickup, subject to SAFER's limits and processing times.
How is the price calculated?
Automatically, based on the trip's distance, the car's fuel type, current fuel prices in Egypt, plus a service fee and any applicable taxes. The full breakdown is shown before you pay.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, depending on timing. Cancel within a 2-hour grace period after paying, or more than 24 hours before departure, for a full refund minus a cancellation fee. Less than 24 hours before departure, you get a 50% refund excluding fees.
What happens if someone doesn't show up?
Not arriving within 15 minutes of the start time without notice counts as a no-show. A passenger no-show gets no refund (we may issue a partial refund at our discretion); a car-owner no-show means a full refund for passengers and a penalty for the car owner.
Why can't men and women ride together?
On every SAFER trip, male passengers ride with male car owners and female passengers with female car owners. It's a safety measure that fits cultural norms in Egypt and makes the ride more comfortable for everyone.
What safety features does SAFER have?
Multi-step verification of every user and car, real-time GPS tracking during trips, a one-tap SOS button, monitored in-trip chat, gender separation on every trip, admin review of flagged trips, and visible ratings and history.
How do I delete my account?
Open the Profile tab, go to Account Settings, and tap Delete Account, then verify your email and confirm, or email [email protected] from your account address. We may verify your identity first; some records can be kept where the law requires it.
